Got my phone about 5 p.m. The tray is flush with the device and there is no bend to the device body. If by the normal way you mean using a sim tool to press into the hole to cause it to eject, well, there is not another method.
A cool trick to use to open the sim card tray is using a clothes pin if you don't have the same tool accessible that the cellular company would have. The hard press may break the pin or the logic board, adding more to your problem of “sim card not detected”. But for my iphone 7 plus, it just inserts a little, like one millimeter.
